Notice Regarding the COVID-19 Crisis:

As the virus continues to spread, we continue to seek the wisdom of health care professionals and government leaders regarding the best options for reopening. The church remains closed for the foreseeable future. We don't have a set date for reopening at this time, but our Session meets monthly to discuss our options. The safety of our congregation and community remains our top priority.

Since we regrettably cannot meet as a congregation in our sanctuary, we have worked out a “next-best” plan for holding worship services. Please check your email every Saturday evening or Sunday morning for a link to the Youtube channel, which will air our Sunday service of that week. If you are not on our church email list, you may find the video by searching Youtube for “First Presbyterian Church of Highlands, NC,” and the services will appear according to date. If you would like to be added to our email list, please contact us at fpch@frontier.com.

We encourage you to view the video at 11:00 am so that we may all virtually attend worship together. Until we may meet again in person, Christ’s peace be with you all.

Children's Ministry

The nursery is normally open during the worship hour for children ages infant through kindergarten. It has been suspended during 2020 until further notice, due to the pandemic.

The Highlands Community Child Development Center (HCCDC)

The Highlands Community Child Development Center (HCCDC), formerly the Presbyterian Daycare, opened on Valentine's Day 2005. The center provides the only, state-licensed, full-year, 5-day per week, 10 hours per day child care program in the Highlands Township. HCCDC is designated a Four-Star Center by the State of NC based on the quality of its programs and the educational credentials of the staff. For more information visit: http://hccdc.info

Sonshine School

The Sonshine School Afterschool Program assists parents by providing a safe, Christian, caring environment for children after school. We strive to create a clean, nurturing atmosphere where a child can grow spiritually, physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually. As a Christian center with affiliation to the First Presbyterian Church, we will provide a moral and spiritual environment where each child is treated with respect

Children in grades K-4 are eligible to attend our program. We help parents by assisting students with completing homework, providing daily literacy activities, and engaging students in enrichment activities to balance learning.

Our operating schedule follows that of Highlands School: we are open on the same days that Highlands School is in session. This schedule varies, especially this year due to changing COVID-19 mandates. Currently the Sonshine School hours of operation are 3:00-5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. For more information or to enroll your child please contact the church office.
